The evidence of process is clearly visible and the act of process is an integral part of the piece. The drips, spatters, marks and collaged elements become the vocabulary of the work. For this series I seamed together squares of paper, creating a loose grid format. In the process of creating the underlying grid, the surface shifts and buckles giving a sculptural quality to the work. The work exists between representation and abstraction. The formal elements both assert and deny the grid. The palette reflects the blues/grays/greens and pinks of the land and sea. I am painting, drawing, assembling and collaging. My materials are as varied as my process. I use gesso, absorbent ground, acrylic paint, watercolor, pencil, and oil pastel. The works remind me of maps, charts and open books.
